NSCS Grayfox TWR 825 Accomplishments - 2015
The following is a summary of some of the accomplishments for the NSCS Grayfox TWR 825, The Grayfox Association in 2015.
SIGNIFICANT EVENTS INCLUDED:
- USCG certification, NVDC documentation, State of Michigan MCL registration
- Installation of removable railing on Fantail, ship canopies, and new brow
- Painting the ship topside and Aft Berthing
- Flush and fill Caterpillar engine coolant
- Service of water systems following winter sub-zero freeze in February
- Vacate of Seaway Terminal storage
- Recovered from pier piling (Dolphin) failure listing on Port side
ADMINISTRATION AND ORGANIZATION
- Prepared many more Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Migrated all shipboard documentation to Google Drive for virtual access,
- Reorganized the volunteer NSCC Grayfox Division and transition to the Magellan system.
- Recruited more crew and supporters.
- Registered the Grayfox with the State of Michigan and obtained an MCL registration.
- Updated EPIRB and FCC records on national websites.
- Obtained a ship tonnage measurement form ABS.
- NSCS Grayfox submitted a request in February 2014 to the National Vessel Documentation Center for official certification. We continue to pursue official documentation.
- Updated the website with enhancements and regular news.
FINANCE
- Board of Governance approved 2015 budget in January 2015.
- Griffin Accounting provided record keeping and filing of 2014 Tax IRS 990 long form.
- Prepared financial spreadsheets of actual expenses for the training completed. Baselined the actual cost for an 8-day training event.
- Resolved all issues of expense reporting to Naval Sea Cadet Corps
- Resolved outstanding debt issues and operated with a positive cash flow.
- Maintained a ledger of all expenses.
- A Grayfox marketing and fund raising package was created.
- Registered with Skybank for online donations through the website
- Visited Toledo shipyard and prepared a budget for shipyard and work repairs.
- Maintain liability insurance with USLI, NSCC for Cadets, and Hold Harmless Agreements
SHIP
Maintained work project plans and maintenance logs for ship work repair, pier project, and ship dry dock.
- Tested and certified all firefighting equipment, gear, and suppression systems.
- Replaced Fantail railing with a removable railing.
- Installed a ship canopy for the topside.
- Pulled Fire Pump No 2 and had it rebuilt like new.
- Painted the topside, railings, fixtures, and Aft Berthing.
- Visited Toledo Shipyard to assess and prepare for ship Dry Dock
- Caterpillar technician assessed and inspected the engines.
- Repaired or replaced ship lines and configured Yellow Nylon lines and stringers.
- Removed vents in Lazarette to free access to Lazarette escape hatch.
- Sold 25 ft Searay boat
- Repaired numerous water line leaks following a February freeze.
- Updated smoke alarms.
- Serviced Stbd engine fuel heat exchanger.
- Established engineering maintenance logs.
- Inventoried all ship tools.
- Serviced and inventoried all items in Boatswain locker.
- Installed temperature sensor for security alarm system.
- Replaced 2 engine batteries in Engine Room. Discarded 4 backup batteries.
- Serviced and repaired 5 discharge valves to generators.
- Flushed and refilled engine coolant with high quality coolant.
- Mended all mattresses in the berthing areas.
- Removed subflooring in Jack O Dust locker.
- Built a ship library in Forward berthing.
- Repaired wall mounted heaters in heads (lavatories).
- Electrician serviced all circuit breaker cabinets, replacing old breakers.
- Installed steel chains for Fantail bullnose.
- Installed enhancements to the ship brow to improve mobility.
- Tested and serviced all battle lanterns. Replaced all batteries.
- Repaired life jacket locker on Fantail with new cover, painted.
- Inventoried all Damage Control Equipment
- Inventoried and labelled all tools.
- Inventoried and inspected all shipboard hoses.
- Commenced labelling all Grayfox assets.
LOCAL AND PIER PROJECTS
- Vacated the Seaway terminal. Moved uniforms to NSCC Anchor Division in Mt Clemens. Move Grayfox repair parts to storage in Port Huron.
- Inventoried and labelled most of the Cadet (numerous) uniforms
- Inventoried most of the ship repair parts in storage.
- Moved ship fenders from pier area to Port Huron storage location.
- Installed a protective cover to the shore power box.
- Recovered from Dolphin failure (pier piling leaning on Grayfox Port side)
TRAINING AND Events
- Cruise to Detroit for Navy League Sunday in April.
- Conducted Navy Reserve Chief Select orientation.
- Conducted hospitality for the Chamber of Commerce Business After 5.
- Participated in Port Huron Tourist in Your Own Town with more than 300 visitors.
- Provided ceremony and tours for Art in the City,
- Supported ceremonies for the Gratiot Cruise.
- Prepared numerous Standard Operating Procedures.
- Some training evolutions.
- Hazardous material handling.
- Onboarding fresh water.
- Refueling and fuel transfer operations.
- Firefighting pumps and hoses.
- PQS training as outlined in the Grayfox training program.
- Gathered and organized Cadet training materials, loaded to online cloud.
- Supported two (2) underway evolutions on the USCGC Bramble in Lake Huron.
- Purchased Grayfox T-Shirts and provided to Cadets and crew.
- Conducted two (2) of four (4) NSCC Summer training sessions
- Conducted training at USCG Station Port Huron
- FC Sherman Div NSCC completed training in January, February, April September, October, November, December
- Supported Maritime Days in Marine City with a ship visit.
- Conducted a ship Bar-B-Que for the Port Huron Powerboat races
- Completed a ship visit to St Clair
